His History
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1924, his father was a French-born chemical manufacturer, while his mother was an actress. Brando, after the Military Academy in Minnesota, from which he was expelled, attended the New School for Social Research and then moved to New York where he began his studies in Dramatic Art. His big break came with the 1951 film “A Tram Is Called Desire”, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
His Style
The real success was achieved by Brando thanks to the role of the outsider Johnny in the film “The Wild”. In this interpretation his style became iconic: leather jacket, white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. His style was devoid of any ostentation, simple and linear. The tough look and the rebellious look became the reference point of a nascent restless youth culture. The “Savage” was a way of being, which intimidated postwar respectable society. Everyone wanted to appear with a masculine bad boy image, and even today if you choose to wear a leather jacket, a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, it’s thanks to the Brando’s mood.
